CATALYST RIDGE WINES
2021
Eola-Amity Hills
Pinot Noir
Eola-Amity Hills AVA
Our flagship Pinot Noir is a bold expression of the varietal. It is what we believe to be the bullseye of a quintessential Oregon Pinot Noir. We focus on creating wines with a balance of tannins and acidity based on what the vineyard gives us in each year. While our Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noirs generally express blue and black fruit flavors, the 2021 vintage has a unique combination of Burgundian overtones with the rich fruit of a great Pinot. With a medium body, the wine continues to exhibit the silky mouth feel that is the signature of our style. While this wine can be opened today, it will also age well for five to seven years. (Our winemaker Joe argues this will age for ten years. Who are we to argue?)

Farming and the 2021 Growing Season
The 2021 growing season finally returned to what might be considered normal in the Willamette Valley, contrasting with 2019, 2020 and now 2022. With a balance of cool mornings and hot days, the 2021 growing season returned to producing average to slightly above average yields. With better yields, we returned to sourcing fruit predominantly from the Orchard House vineyard, the estate of our winemaker Joe Dobbes. Our approach to winemaking remains to express the unique characteristics of the vineyard and the vintage and you can taste some of the differences in our 2021 Eola-Amity Hills AVA Pinot Noir compared to earlier vintages, particularly our 2020.
